Pixies CMJ/Rock Hall Fest

April 12th, 2005

The Pixies will be opening up the CMJ/Rock Hall Fest. They’ll be playing at the Rock Hall and later the same night at the festival village.
Still no word on the local college stations involvement in the event. I know WCSB is planning on having some of the bands come to the station to play, but nothing official associated with the festival has been established.
Come on CMJ get off your duff. Get this thing done and stop worrying about your fall festival in NYC.

Comment SPAM

April 9th, 2005

I am turning off commenting on the older journal entries here on the site. I am sick of deleting comment spam for poker. Most of it is automatically deleted by the WordPress software, but it does miss some and I have to go in a check on it once and a while.
I figure the easiest way to keep it from getting in is to not let them post.

Playlists and such

April 5th, 2005

It has been a few weeks since I posted here, but I do update my playlist each week I do the show. The MP3 streams are usually available by the next day.
There are plenty of good shows coming up. John Doe this Thursday at The Beachland Ballroom. He’s doing an in-store at Music Saves a couple of doors down before the show as well. I hope the X poster I ordered comes in before then, so I can ask him to sign it.
The CMJ/Rock Hall Fest artists have not been announced yet, but The Beachland has posted 3 that they’ll have. Stephen Malkmus, Spoon, and Chuck Prophet.
Les Breastfeeders are going to do a Great Lakes/Mid-West tour in mid-June. Hopefully they’ll be able to schedule some time to do a WCSB performance.

WCSB Show 2005.03.14

March 14th, 2005

Today’s playlist has been posted and the MP3 streams have been updated.
Small tributes to the Rock Hall inductees and St. Patrick’s day were part of the show.

Alex Chilton & Doug Gillard @ Beachland Ballroom

March 10th, 2005

We went to see Alex Chilton at The Beachland Ballroom last weekend. It was a different kind of show. First, the ballroom was probably at about half capacity. I’ve only ever seen it packed when going to shows there. Second, he only did 1 Big Star song (In the Street). Finally, the backing band must have gotten together with Alex that day. He had “play books” for them to know how to play his stuff. It was awkward at times watching them not fit together very smoothly.
Doug Gillard, former guitarist in Guided By Voices opened up the show. He doesn’t really have a stage presence, but he sounded very good and that’s what counts.
Here are some pictures I took at the show.

WCSB Show 2005.03.07

March 7th, 2005

The playlsit has been posted for today’s show. The MP3 stream should be up late tonight (after class).

WCSB Show 2005.02.28

March 1st, 2005

I didn’t get a chance to post about yesterday’s show yesterday, because of too many things going on at work and having class last night. The playlist is posted.
It seems like a pretty good show looking back at what was played, but it didn’t seem to be going very well while I was doing it.
Going to see Alex Chilton and Doug Gillard this weekend at The Beachland. It should be a good old-school rocker show. I don’t know how many hipster know who Alex Chilton is. The Doug Gillard album is pretty good. It will probably make it onto the top albums of 2005 at the end of the year.

WCSB Show 2005.02.21

February 21st, 2005

The playlist from today’s show has been posted. I played a lot of newer stuff.
I got 2 Les Breastfeeders songs in. I can’t say enough about this band. The album is very good, but their live show is even better.
Congrats to Bob for winning the pair of tickets to the sold-out Wilco show this week. I didn’t know that many people would call in. Good to see people are listening in the local CLE area.

New York - The Gates and Les Breastfeeders

February 20th, 2005

We’re back from New York. What’s this snow stuff still coming down here?!!!
We had a great time in NYC. Saw the The Gates in Central Park, saw our friend John’s band Low Water play, had the best Indian food (I ate goat), had deep-fried candy, saw Les Breastfeeders (awsome Montreal band), and hung out with some good friends.
Tired now. I’ll have more photos that I’ll link from here.

The Gates Photos.
A little Quicktime video I took of the Gates.
Panoramic Photos one and two.
Les Breastfeeders Photos. (coming soon)

Valentines Day Playlist

February 14th, 2005

Today’s playlist has been updated. The MP3 streams won’t be available till late tonight or tomorrow. I have a research exam tonight.

Congrats to the winners of the tickets for Chris Stamey at The Beachland! I’ll be giving away Wilco tickets for the sold out show at House of Blues next week.

Don’t eat too much candy!
